The Diud’chi people have the second-highest commonly available technology in the game and their construction designs are normally quite elegant, as Tess is now seeing. Diud’chi are also telepathic, which she does not realize.
The guard is wearing a BL50-K Heavy Protective Unit, detailed on page 106 of the Diud’chi Bureaucracy source book.

The pistol L’orelai wears at her knee is the LN30 Phazer pistol, while the long handle is a phaze blade. Both weapons use early nucleonic disruptor energy to damage their targets, and both are detailed in the Diud’chi weapon sheet download and pages 102/103 of the Diud’chi Bureaucracy
handbook.
The device on her left hip is a Personal Deflector Unit. The Diud’chi PDU protects from energy weapons fire, but not kinetic weapons such as more primitive firearms.
