Gazelle:
The race we call gazelles got their name from the translation of a diud word that had to do with a fast-running land animal. Gazelles are built like muscular satyr. They have hooves and can move rapidly over the ground. They are far from being grazing herd animals, however.
The gazelle people are evolved of a predatory stock and are vaguely feline. They are hunters and, by some races’ definitions, killers. They have a highly evolved sense of honor. Gazelles almost never lie and they are always ready to take responsibility for their actions.
To other races, gazelles seem enigmatic. They say little, preferring to remain silent and observe their surroundings. They have little sense of time. Five minutes is as five hours to gazelle, making them a very patient people. If the circumstances are right to take action, it is time. If not, then it isn’t time. They can wait all day for the right circumstances.
To a gazelle, the only crimes are those of Treachery, Lying, and Cowardice. These are punishable by disfigurement and death. Questioning a gazelle’s honor is punishable by death.
Gazelles are normally solitary. They are loners by nature, believing that life must by tackled alone, that this is the only true test of a warrior’s abilities. When a gazelle is encountered with another gazelle, they are usually mated or honor-bound to one another.
What motivates a gazelle? Honor first, and adventure second. Gazelles are incapable of assigning abstract value to money of any kind. They have a strictly barter economy. To a gazelle, a thousand credits and one credit are equally worthless.
Gazelles are found all over the Diud Empire and are normally encountered in the company of diud soldiers or civilians. The diud have a great deal of respect for the gazelle people due to their size and stamina. Gazelles are unflinchingly loyal to those they’ve sworn themselves to, and a gazelle warrior’s courage in battle is legendary.
If a gazelle is challenged, he or she will fight. Not to would be an act of cowardice. Other gazelles would then kill him so he wouldn’t have to live with such a blight upon his honor.
The minimum Courage die for a gazelle is 1d10. The maximum Courage die is 1d20. This would be a warrior. Gazelle warriors can be male or female. The gazelle race is fifty-fifty male and female. They are extremely protective of their cubs.
The gazelle people are tribal and have no central government. The Technological Classification of the gazelle people is “A”.
Gazelles can also be encountered using the weapons of both the diud and vuchelk’shi. They do not normally take the possessions of those they’ve killed, but they do collect souvenirs such as scalps, ears, fingers, skulls or other body parts, particularly from difficult adversaries. Gazelles do not always view members of other races as being people so much as they see them to be more intelligent prey. They are not afraid to die.
One more thing. A gazelle has heavy talons that are usually kept sharp. Their hooves and strong legs are good for inflicting injury as well. Gazelles inflict permanent damage in a brawl, just as firearms do. They’ll bleed you, man.
