Terran:  Like his ancestors of old Earth, the average space fairing Terran is something of a rebel. He or she dislikes sitting around when there are places to see, things to go, and people to do.

At the same time, the more “civilized” part of Terran society is desperately trying to control its own. The basis for the Terran Consortium goes all the way back to the old United Nations, and has been passing more and more restrictive legislation as it goes.

Terrans believe firmly in their government “by the people, for the people” but are irritated by its trying to regulate how much air they can use in a day. Villansh criticism of a democratic form of government is easily deflected by pointing to the Diud’chi Bureaucracy. It may be slow, but it’s been around for nearly two billion years.

Top that, sucker.

A distrust of huge, invasive government and a need to start something new drive the terran race to expand beyond its borders. They can identify with the militaristic government of the diud, but have a hard time with Emperors, kings, and dictators. In a strange twist of diplomacy, the Terran Consortium has opened preliminary relations with the Vuchelk’shi Autocracy, making instant enemies of the Diud Empire. It is for this reason that many diud view terrans coldly.

What motivates a terran? We are terrans. We’re motivated by a wide variety of things, just like vilansh.

Average Courage for a human of either race is 1d6. If the individual has a mundane job like an office worker, it’s 1d4. If he or she is in Aerospace, it’s 1d8. If the individual had been in the armed forces, it becomes 1d10. The maximum courage die a human can have is 1d10.

Vilansh:
The vilansh people are basically humans. They have dark, tanned skin, black hair and Mediterranean features. Vilansh are motivated by many of the same things we are; love, hate, greed, and power are all common motivators for a vilansh. They tend to be a bit more thoughtful than terrans, who they see as being a bit brash. Vilansh firmly believe in a strong Emperor and his right to take theirs away in times of need. They believe an elected government to be too slow and indecisive to be effective and they often point to what is known of the diud’chi government as an example.

Some vilansh have an opinion about terrans similar to that of southerners toward northerners, or “Yankees”, after the U.S. Civil War. The vilansh did lose the Expansion War, no matter what anybody says.

The Vilansh Imperium has official relations with the Terran Consortium, sporadic relations with the various vagarin Clans, and frosty, semi-hostile relations with the Diud Empire.

It is interesting that while a vilansh commonly believes in the ability and legitimacy of an Emperor or dictator, and can accept the validity of an elected government, they truly despise a purely military rulership.

Vilansh aren’t openly hostile towards a diud, but they don’t go out of their way to help them either.

Aside from those viewpoints, a vilansh is just a human being, and anything is possible.
